Privacy policy
Cal Civique collects as little data as possible. No account, no advertising, no audience measurement cookies, and no data is sold.
This page is a translation of the French politique de confidentialité. In case of any difference, the French version prevails.
Version of 7 Oct 2026. This policy covers the calcivique.fr website and the Cal Civique app for Android and iPhone.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is MatchLab s.r.o., a company under Czech law, Školská 660/3, 110 00 Prague 1, Czech Republic, identification number (IČO) 24424455. For any question about your data, write to hello@calcivique.fr.
In short
- You do not need to create an account.
- Your progress stays on your phone.
- We measure the use of the site and the app anonymously, without cookies and without keeping your IP address.
- There is no advertising, and we do not sell or rent any data.
- Payments go through Google Play or the App Store: we never see your bank details.
App data
What stays on your phone
Your progress, your answers, your settings and the information you give at the start (the residence permit or status you are aiming for and, if you wish, the date of your exam) are stored only on your phone. We have no access to them. They are deleted if you uninstall the app or if you use the reset function in the settings. On Android, if your phone's backup is turned on, Google may include them in your personal backup so that you get them back on a new phone. We have no access to that either.
Audience measurement and error reports
To improve the app, it sends anonymous usage events: for example opening a screen, a right or wrong answer to a question, finishing a practice test, a purchase, or a technical error (the error message and the screen concerned). These events are linked to a random identifier created at installation, which does not show who you are. We never send your name, your email, your nationality, the residence permit or status you are aiming for or the date of your exam: only a range (for example "in 8 to 30 days") to know when the app is most useful. Geolocation by IP address is turned off and the IP address is not kept.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used and in fixing errors.
Helping us improve (optional)
If you turn on "Aider à améliorer Cal Civique" (Help improve Cal Civique) in the app (at the start, or in Réglages [Settings], Mes données [My data]), the app records what is shown on the screen during your sessions, to see where people get stuck. Everything you type (email, dates, messages) is hidden. This is turned off by default and you can stop it at any time. These recordings are kept for 30 days. The website, for its part, never records sessions.
Reminders
Revision reminders are scheduled directly on your phone. They do not go through any server. You can turn them off at any time in the settings of the app or of your phone.
Purchases
The purchase of the Plan Réussite is processed by Google Play or by Apple's App Store, depending on your phone. These platforms process your payment under their own privacy rules. We only receive confirmation that the purchase is valid, never your bank details. To check this purchase with Google or Apple and to restore it on a new phone, we use the RevenueCat service, which receives the random installation identifier and the purchase receipt, without your name or your bank details.
Reading aloud
The voices are either recorded in the app or produced by your phone's text-to-speech. The app does not use the microphone and never records your voice.
To keep the app light to install, some of the recorded voices are downloaded after installation from our website calcivique.fr (hosted by Cloudflare), on Wi-Fi unless you allow mobile data in the settings: the app only requests the audio files, with no identifier and no personal data.
Writing to us
If you write to us from the app or by email, we receive your email address and your message. We use them only to reply to you and to fix the error reported, and we keep them for as long as it takes to handle your request, 2 years at most.
Website data
Audience measurement without cookies
The site measures page views, the page you came from (for example a search engine or a campaign link) and a few actions (for example an answer in the 5-question test or a click on a download button) anonymously. Nothing is stored on your device: no cookies, no local storage. To count a visit of several pages as a single visit, our measurement tool calculates a temporary identifier from the IP address and the browser, renewed every day. The IP address is not kept and this identifier does not show who you are.
When you click on an App Store or Google Play button, the link shows the page and the button it came from. On Android, the app reads this information once, at first launch, to know which page of the site led to the installation. No personal data is passed on.
Get notified at launch
If you leave your email to be notified when the app launches, and only if you tick the consent box, we use it to send you a single message on launch day. We then delete it, or as soon as you ask us to. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
The eligibility test and the 5-question test
Your answers stay in your browser. Only anonymous events (for example the final score) are measured.
Who receives the data
| Provider | Role | Location |
|---|---|---|
| PostHog (PostHog Inc.) | Audience measurement and error reports | Servers in the European Union (Frankfurt) |
| Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.) | Hosting and delivery of the site and of the app's voices, forwarding of emails sent to hello@calcivique.fr, and the list of "Get notified" emails (database in the European Union) | Global network, including the European Union |
| Google (Gmail) | Receiving and reading your emails | United States and European Union |
| Google (Google Play) and Apple (App Store) | Downloading the app and payments | According to their own policies |
| RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.) | Checking and restoring purchases in the app | United States |
PostHog, Cloudflare, Google and RevenueCat are American companies. When data may be processed outside the European Union, the transfer is covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
How long
- Anonymous usage events and error reports: 13 months at most.
- Screen recordings from the app, only if you turned them on: 30 days.
- "Get notified at launch" email: until the launch message is sent, or until you ask for it to be deleted.
- Messages you send us: for as long as it takes to handle your request, 2 years at most.
- Data on your phone: until you uninstall or reset the app.
Delete your data
In the Cal Civique app: open Réglages (Settings), then Effacer toutes mes données (Delete all my data), and confirm. Everything stored on your phone is deleted (progress, answers, settings, reminders, installation identifier) and the app starts again from zero. Usage events already sent can no longer be linked to your phone and are deleted at the latest 13 months after they were sent.
By email: write to hello@calcivique.fr with the subject "Supprimer mes données" (Delete my data). We delete the messages you sent us and your "Get notified at launch" email. The purchase confirmation for the Plan Réussite is kept by Google Play or the App Store, and by RevenueCat, according to their rules and legal obligations.
Your rights
You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to limit its use, to object to its processing and to withdraw your consent. Write to us at hello@calcivique.fr. Because the audience measurement is anonymous, we cannot always find the events linked to your phone. To delete them on your side, uninstall the app.
You can also make a complaint to a data protection authority: the CNIL in France, or the Czech authority (Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů), which MatchLab s.r.o. comes under.
Audience
Cal Civique is for adults preparing for the civic exam (examen civique). The app is not intended for children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update the date at the top of the page. For a significant change, we also say so in the app.
