    Senators are elected by indirect suffrage. Electoral colleges of "grands électeurs" (mainly elected officials such as town councillors and MPs) vote for them. MPs (députés), by contrast, are elected directly by citizens.

    15 connects you to the SAMU for a medical emergency. 17 is the police number, 18 is the fire brigade number and 119 is the line for children in danger. 112 is the European emergency number.

What is the civic exam (examen civique)?

A questionnaire of 40 multiple-choice questions, in French, on the principles of the Republic, the institutions, rights and duties, history and life in France. You need 32 correct answers out of 40, in 45 minutes at most. Source: formation-civique.interieur.gouv.fr (in French)

How can you prepare for the civic exam?

Practise in the real format, 40 questions in 45 minutes, then go back over your mistakes theme by theme. The free practice test gives you your score by theme and your mistakes explained with their source. The ministère de l'Intérieur (the French Ministry of the Interior) also publishes free fact sheets on formation-civique.interieur.gouv.fr.

Are Cal Civique's questions the ones on exam day?

No. They are practice questions written by Cal Civique from the published syllabus. For the multi-year residence permit and resident card levels (mentions), the ministry states that the exam's scenario questions (mises en situation) are not made public.

Is the Cal Civique app free?

The app will be free to download as soon as it launches on Android and iPhone, and the full practice test with your score by theme is free. The Plan Réussite, which unlocks the whole course, is paid only once, €24.99, with no subscription and no end date.

Does Cal Civique register me for the exam?

No. You register with a CCI Paris Île-de-France centre or with France Éducation International. Cal Civique is only for practising.
